Discord Bot Setup

What is the Discord Integration?

Connecting Discord gives you another way to chat with AIDA — directly from your Discord server. You can interact with all your tools, ask questions, and receive responses right in a Discord channel.

What You Need

  • A Discord account
  • A Discord server you manage (or permission to add bots)
  • Your AIDA instance running

Step 1 — Create a Discord Bot

  1. Go to discord.com/developers
  2. Click New Application and name it "AIDA"
  3. Go to the Bot section in the sidebar
  4. Click Reset Token and copy the bot token — save it somewhere safe

Step 2 — Enable Required Intents

Still in the Bot section:

  1. Enable Message Content Intent — required for AIDA to read messages
  2. Enable Server Members Intent
  3. Click Save Changes

Step 3 — Invite the Bot to Your Server

  1. Go to OAuth2 in the sidebar
  2. Under Scopes, select bot
  3. Under Bot Permissions, select:
    • Send Messages
    • Read Messages/View Channels
    • Read Message History
  4. Copy the generated invite URL and open it in your browser
  5. Select your server and click Authorize

Step 4 — Configure in AIDA

  1. Open AIDA → Settings
  2. Find the Discord Bot Token field
  3. Paste the bot token you copied in Step 1
  4. Click Save

Step 5 — Restart AIDA

The Discord bot runs inside AIDA. After saving the token, restart AIDA so the bot picks it up:

sudo docker restart aida

Step 6 — Test It

Go to your Discord server and send a message in any channel the bot can see. AIDA should respond.

Try:

  • "What's on my calendar today?"
  • "Search the web for latest AI news"
  • "What's the weather?"

Files AIDA creates in chat are delivered to Discord as real attachments (up to 10 MB — larger files arrive as a download link).

Troubleshooting

Bot shows offline in Discord — Make sure AIDA is running: sudo docker ps. Check the token is correct in Settings, and confirm AIDA was restarted after saving it.

Bot doesn't respond to messages — Verify that Message Content Intent is enabled in the Discord developer portal. Without it, the bot can't read message content.

Bot responds in wrong channels — The bot listens to all channels it has access to. Use Discord's channel permissions to restrict which channels the bot can see.

"Token invalid" error in logs — The bot token was copied incorrectly or has been regenerated. Get a fresh token from the Discord developer portal and update it in AIDA Settings.
