Telegram Bot Setup

What is the Telegram Integration?

Connecting Telegram gives you a mobile interface to AIDA. You can chat with your AI agent from your phone, receive morning briefings, and get notified about scheduled tasks — all through the Telegram app.

Step 1 — Create a Bot with BotFather

  1. Open Telegram on your phone or desktop
  2. Search for @BotFather and open the chat
  3. Send the message: /newbot
  4. BotFather will ask for a name — enter something like "My AIDA"
  5. BotFather will ask for a username — it must end in bot, e.g. my_aida_bot
  6. BotFather will send you a token — it looks like 123456789:ABCdefGHI...
  7. Copy the token

Step 2 — Add the Token to AIDA

  1. Open AIDA → Settings
  2. Scroll down to Telegram Bot
  3. Paste your token in the Bot Token field
  4. Click Save
  5. Restart AIDA for the bot to activate:
sudo docker restart aida

Step 3 — Start Chatting

  1. Open Telegram
  2. Search for your bot by username (e.g. @my_aida_bot)
  3. Click Start
  4. Send any message — AIDA will respond

What Works in Telegram

Everything that works in the web chat also works in Telegram:

  • Ask questions and get answers
  • Check emails and calendar
  • Search the web
  • Manage tasks and reminders
  • Receive morning briefings (via Cron Jobs)
  • Use all tools and integrations
  • Receive files AIDA creates as real attachments (up to 50 MB — larger files arrive as a download link)

Morning Briefing via Telegram

You can set up a daily briefing that AIDA sends to you automatically every morning:

  1. Open AIDA → Settings → Morning Briefing
  2. Toggle Enable daily briefing on
  3. Set your preferred time (e.g. 8:00 AM)
  4. Set Channel to Telegram
  5. Customize the briefing prompt if desired
  6. Click Save Briefing

AIDA will send you a morning summary including weather, calendar events, tasks, and emails every day at your chosen time.

Tips

  • Multiple devices — you can use both the web chat and Telegram simultaneously
  • Separate sessions — Telegram conversations are kept separate from web chat sessions
  • Response time — complex queries involving multiple tools may take 10-30 seconds
  • Bot stays on — the Telegram bot runs automatically as long as AIDA is running

Troubleshooting

Bot not responding — Check that the token is saved correctly in Settings. Make sure AIDA was restarted after saving the token.

"Conflict" error in logs — Only one AIDA instance can use a given bot token at a time. If you have multiple AIDA instances, make sure only one has the Telegram token configured.

Slow responses — Queries involving multiple tools (e.g. check calendar and send email) can take 20-40 seconds. This is normal.

Morning briefing not arriving — Check that the briefing is enabled and the time is set correctly. Make sure your timezone is configured in Settings → User Profile.
