What you get
Connecting Google Workspace gives AIDA access to:
- Gmail — read, search, send, and manage emails
- Google Calendar — view and create events
- Google Drive — search and read files
- Google Tasks — manage your task lists
- Google Docs / Sheets / Slides — create and edit documents
Before You Start
You need:
- A Google account
- Access to Google Cloud Console — free with any Google account
Step 1 — Create a Google Cloud Project
- Go to console.cloud.google.com
- Click Select a project at the top
- Click New Project
- Name it
AIDA(or anything you prefer) - Click Create
- Make sure your new project is selected in the top dropdown
Step 2 — Enable Required APIs
- In the left menu, go to APIs & Services → Library
- Search for and enable each of these APIs:
- Gmail API — click Enable
- Google Calendar API — click Enable
- Google Drive API — click Enable
- Google Tasks API — click Enable
Step 3 — Configure OAuth Consent Screen
- Go to APIs & Services → OAuth consent screen
- Select External as the user type
- Click Create
- Fill in the required fields:
- App name:
AIDA - User support email: your email
- Developer contact email: your email
- App name:
- Click Save and Continue through the remaining steps
- Return to the OAuth consent screen (or the Audience tab) and set Publishing status to In production (click Publish App and confirm)
- Required so your connection does not expire after 7 days, which happens while the app stays in Testing mode
- Because the app is External, first sign-in shows an "unverified app" warning — click Advanced → Go to AIDA (unsafe) to proceed. This is expected and safe for self-hosted apps (your own app connecting to your own account)
Step 4 — Create OAuth Credentials
- Go to APIs & Services → Credentials
- Click + Create Credentials → OAuth client ID
- Select Web application as the application type
- Name it
AIDA - Under Authorized redirect URIs, click Add URI and enter:
```
https://YOUR-DOMAIN/api/google/callbackYOUR-DOMAIN
> Replacewith the domain where your AIDA is installed (e.g.aida.yourbusiness.com`). It must be https with a real domain — a bare server IP will not work. - Click Create
- A popup will show your Client ID and Client Secret — copy both
Important: Copy both values before closing the popup. You can always find them again in Credentials → your OAuth client.
Step 5 — Configure in AIDA
- Open AIDA → Settings
- Scroll to Google Workspace
- Enter your Client ID and Client Secret
- Click Save
- Click Connect Google
- A Google sign-in window will open
- Sign in with your Google account
- Click Allow to grant permissions
- The window will close and show Connected in green
Step 6 — Test the Connection
Ask AIDA in chat:
- "Check my Gmail inbox"
- "What's on my Google calendar today?"
- "Show my Google Tasks"
Troubleshooting
"Access blocked" error Your app is in testing mode and your email is not added as a test user.
- Go to APIs & Services → OAuth consent screen
- Click Test users → Add Users
- Add your Google email address
- Try connecting again
"Token expired" error AIDA refreshes tokens automatically. If this persists, go to Settings → Google Workspace → Disconnect, then reconnect.
APIs not working Make sure all four APIs (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Tasks) are enabled in your project under APIs & Services → Enabled APIs.
Security Notes
- Your credentials are stored securely in AIDA's database
- Tokens never leave the server
- Revoke access anytime at myaccount.google.com/permissions
